Hey,
Yeah...something is off with my mail. People have said they have written me a few weeks ago and I haven't gotten any of it. I need to track them down. It sucks not getting mail! My companion gets mail everyday from her nephews and cousin and I’ve gotten like nothing since I’ve been here in Tempe. She's trying to set me up with her cousin and keeps telling him to write me because I think she thinks I don't have any friends.
As for emails I don't have time to read super long emails so maybe you could just send those in the mail because I really don't have a lot of time on the computer and I end up skimming your emails and I don't have time to answer all the questions and I miss a lot of them. Just write me and email the short stuff please :)
As for this week, it was long and hot. I don't think I have ever been so tired in my life. The sun completely takes it out of us. Our area is starting to pick up though. We had some really good lessons this week. We are teaching this woman "M" and her daughter "A" and they are really sweet and cute. Her "friend" "J" introduced her to the church and took her to the visitors center and she has been taking the lesson and progressing the last month. For some reason we haven't been able to really click with her a few of our lessons have been straight up awkward because she can be really quiet and will give a one word answer. But she's pretty diligent about reading and really finding out for herself. So a few of the times we have been with "M", "J" has been there and they are clearly more than friends. He's a really good guy and treats her really well and is strong in the church. We finally had a good lesson with her and after the lesson I was talking to her and asked her if she had plans with "J" that night and she got all bashful and asked why I would ask that. I told her we have eyes! She hit me and then started telling me everything. They have been dating 3 weeks now and they talked to the Bishop in his ward and are planning a wedding date in April?! She explained to me (like we didn't know) that they would have to wait a year to go through the temple. It was cute. So apparently she is getting baptized sooner than we thought? But now she has opened up to us a lot which is good and we are excited
Ok what else. Oh my favorite. "P"!!
I think I mentioned him last time - the 20 yr old we found when we were trying to find his friend? I don’t remember what I wrote last time. Anyway, he's become probably one of my favorite investigators except that he is a little punk and always makes fun of my Spanish...jerk. He lives with 4 other guys his age and they are partying all the time, like all day, everyday. But Pedro has been partying less:) He has been sober our last 2 lessons so that's an improvement and he has been reading! We taught him the Plan early this week and he started opening up and telling us more about his life and how he just needs something more. Even though his house is a party house and he's surrounded with friends he's pretty lonely and unhappy. His family is in Mexico and he hasn't seen them in years and he doesn't really know where his life is going right now. He surprises me though because I would expect him to be embarrassed to be with us in front of his friends because talking to us isn't cool I’m sure. But anytime we come over and he's sitting with his friends, he just gets up and grabs his Book of Mormon and sets up some chairs. Oh and he's been praying. I love his prayers. He's going to come to the visitor’s center with us on Friday so we will see. I have a good feeling about him though.
We taught this family again named "O" and "Oz". We had a good first lesson with them but we didn't know if we would be able to teach them again. We were pretty sure they were going to forget they had scheduled a lesson with us, but to our surprise they were expecting us and had cleaned up their house and had their Book of Mormons out on the table. We taught them the Plan. (We taught the plan of salvation like 15 times this week) They are a really cute family and they are so sweet to us. I'm really comfortable with them and can joke around with them so it makes it a lot easier. My personality is easier to show now in Spanish now that my Spanish is growing out of nowhere. But they are really fun to teach and they loved the plan the spirit was really strong and they said they knew it was true and they really wanted to bring their family to church. They also mentioned that they were pretty sure the Book of Mormon was true too, so that's cool. They always pray for our families - it's cute.
We have been trying to get in with this one girl for the last 3 weeks and every time we set up an appt she isn't there, but she keeps saying how badly she wants us to come over so we keep trying. Finally it went through last night! We had the worst day yesterday - 5 lessons canceled in a row, so we weren't looking forward to this one because we were sure it was going to fall through too. But it seems like whenever we have a really bad day it usually means something good is about to happen.
So we taught them and it was AMAZING! Her mom and sister sat in too. They listened so carefully and in the middle of nowhere the sister asked if she could please come to church with us. She said she knew we were representatives of Jesus Christ and her mom said that she believes that God sent us to them to be their angels. They kept saying there was something different about us and we brought a different feeling into their home and how they felt so peaceful. We explained how it was the spirit and we read a few scriptures about the spirit - it was really cool. The spirit was so strong. They all are amazingly prepared. They asked us to find them a ride to church and they committed themselves to read and pray (which is always nice) and they asked if we could come by at least once a week and teach them. Its fun when they ask and we don't have to ask when we can come back. As we were getting into our car she came out of her apartment and yelled "I really am going to read this" holding the Book of Mormon. It was cute. Needless to say we are happy about them.
I don't know how much success we will have this transfer but next transfer we should be busy, which will be good because I’ll have a greenie and I refuse to tract.
Anyways I'm out of time...
I love you. I miss you.
Oh really quick. I have talked to some of the sisters that were here last summer and they gave some tips for the summer because apparently we are going to be drenched head to toe every day with sweat -yay. So they said they noticed if they wore obviously lighter fabrics but they said LIGHT colors, which I’ve noticed already. I made the mistake of wearing black the other day and I wanted to DIE. I keep getting sun in the same freaking places. I have little shoe tan lines and my toes are white. But it's HOT. They say it stays between 110-120 until November and last summer it was humid and they are expecting it again. I got the bad shift I wish I was in the mountains for the summer.
