FAMILY...
Happy late Thanksgiving:)
It was good here. It didn't
really feel like Thanksgiving. President changed our Pday to Thanksgiving last
week so we had all day to relax. We got lucky and only had to eat twice. We
avoided all other invitations:)
We had a really fun adventure
this week...
So Saturday night we were having
the best luck. We got in contact with this woman we have been trying to meet
forever and then we met this other guy who wants to take the lessons too and we
were feeling all luckily and blessed until...
Well okay I should explain. Part
of our area covers what is called "Mexico chiquito" it's called that
because well. It looks like Mexico. And well, everyone that lives there is
Mexican. They also call it the "dust bowl" because it's all dirt
roads and as soon as you start driving then all this dust comes up and you
can't see where you are driving. It rained on Thursday. Which is rare in AZ and
so all the dirt roads that have big huge potholes turned into little lakes of
mud.
So there is this one part where
the dirt road forks and you can choose right or left. To the right there was A
GIANT lake of mud that I knew our little corolla probably would get stuck in.
On the other side it just looked a little muddy and wet. We both heard the little
voice tell us we should probably just back up and go another way. But I like to
four-wheel. So I chose the smaller lake of mud. We went in. And it turns out
the mud was deeper than it looked and completely sucked in the car and none of
the tires could get traction haha..So after trying for 15 minutes we decided to
try and get out. I stuck my foot out the door and stepped into mud up to my
knee it was sooo deep. IT DIDN'T LOOK THAT DEEP. But what I didn't realize
was that the phone was in my lap and when I stepped out of the car the phone
slipped into the mud lake...so then we got back in the car and tried again to
get out. Meanwhile driving over the cell phone... so we gave up and were like
okay. Fine we will call the zone leaders for help...where’s the phone?"....yepppp....so
then we realize what happened and we are up to our knees in mud sticking are
hands up to our elbows in the mud feeling for the phone. We find it and it's
under about two feet of water and mud. BUT IT STILL IS WORKING. So we call the zone
leaders. And wait for them for 45 minutes (our area is super far from
anyone) but meanwhile its dark and scary there are no streetlights in
Mexico chiquito and really sketchy people. So we decided to ditch the car and
walk to somewhere where there was more light and as we walked we sang primary
songs because we both are afraid of the dark haha. We were laughing so hard.
The zone leaders came and pushed the car out. As soon as their car pulled up
our phone died. It worked just long enough for us to get help so that was a
miracle. Then the creepy part as we are pulling away and talking to the elders.
Out of the bush right by where our car had been this creeper white
guy (there are no white people in Mexico chiquito) with a long black trench
coat and big boots and big ol’ beard steps out of the random bush...I guess
he'd been there the whole time..ahhhh!!! So glad we ditched the car. The elders
were freaking out.
The good news is I am good
friends with the Spanish AP’s and so they brought us a new phone and we didn't
have to pay anything. They just took pictures of the car to make fun of us
forever.
So that was fun.
I was sick all week so that was
also super fun. Totally lost my voice. Which was SO good for my companion
because it forced her to speak more Spanish and try and teach!!
What else? Ummm oh I got
chastened pretty bad this week...One of my favorite parts of being a missionary
is randomly Heavenly Father decides to show you how much you suck at everything
and show you all your weaknesses. It was one of those weeks. I swear you
are never comfortable as a missionary. Just once you think you are getting the
hang of one thing than you find a million other things to work on. Super fun.
Remember that family I told you
about that they had the crazy fight with the parents? Well we've had like 10
more lessons just like that where the scream at each other and it's awful. It's
been weighing on my mind so much lately because the kids are in the worst
situation ever. It makes us sick that we can't help them more. So we had
another really bad lesson this week the parents were screaming worse than ever
so we got up and took the kids outside with us. So frustrating. Then Sat night
Hermano G (the dad) calls us crying??? FOR 45 minutes I felt like a
freaking marriage counselor..AHHH.. Probably one of the weirdest
conversations I've ever had.
This week being a missionary =
immigration lawyer, marriage counselor, children’s advocate, and therapist.
Learning so much on my mission.
I can't think of anything super spiritual
that happened to tell you this week...That's pretty much how our week went...
Okay I love you!!
