Buenas Dias
This week was long. We are struggling to find people to
teach.
Yesterday we decided if we were
to sum up Tempe in three words they would be:
Tempe Is Crazy. But for some reason we love it. Mainly because
it keeps us pretty entertained.
We have some great OYMS that make for awesome quotes. I love hearing other missionaries stories in the area too. The other day one of the English elders companionship's met this guy who
We have some great OYMS that make for awesome quotes. I love hearing other missionaries stories in the area too. The other day one of the English elders companionship's met this guy who
legitimately thought he was Batman and asked them if they would
like to join him in the fight against good and evil. I guess he was some
super ripped guy walking 10 miles an hr and they followed behind him
and
he talked about crime fighting and how they could train with him. He
also role played with them...ha ha!
Sometimes it's funny but for the most part is sad how many people
here are permanently damaged from all sorts of drugs and have really
lost it. Did I tell you about the lady we met at the bus stop who kept
yelping
randomly because there were "animal spirits biting her through
the bench" she kept saying "dang animal spirits" It was really hard to
keep a straight face she also talked about how she'd been abducted by
aliens
and if one day she met Jesus she would tell him to "Go get his
own America"...We also had no idea what that meant.
It's slim pickins when it comes to people to teach. Almost every
lesson we had set up this week fell through or they weren't there...We
are starting to wonder what we are supposed to be learning from it
all...
Hopefully we find some people pronto. We did have a cool experience at church yesterday though.
One of
our members brought her husband's cousin who just got out of jail with
immigration and when he got out his wife had taken his kids (that
weren't her kids they are his kids with his wife before)
So we were in
gospel principles and talking about sacrifice and randomly this man
started to cry and for the entire hour long class he cried and talked
about wanting to change his life and how his
time in jail made him
reflect so much and how he knows he is here for a reason and how he's
always wanted to learn about Mormons ever since his cousin converted and
how he'd never felt like he felt in
the church before. It was cool
because the class consisted of 5 of our recent converts and the teacher
and they all were giving him advice and sharing their testimonies. I
love hearing my recent converts share their
testimonies. But the best
was "M" (she got baptized my first transfer here) she has been going
through a really hard time and recently moved into the smallest trailer
where her and her two daughters sleep on the floor of this closet sized
room..she hasn't been coming to church and has had kind of an attitude
and her daughter said something to us about her being baptized for the
wrong reason and how she never had a testimony...which is like the worst
the to hear as her missionary because I know the woman has a
testimony..
but she surprised us by coming to church.. and she was crying
all during the class..It was exactly what she needed. And what I
needed..I don't want to be responsible for someone getting baptized for
the wrong reason and then going inactive..It's been worrying me a lot
but after yesterday I know she'll
be fine.
Okay that's pretty much all that happened this week.
Pray for us that we wont have to bike..we're running low on miles...NOOO
I love you!
