This week was better!

Last week was terrible and it ended with a crazy anti.  This crazy old homeless man called us servants of Satan that bring people down to hell with our abominable church. He YELLED at us and kept yelling as we walked away. He even yelled "get thee hence servants of Satan.”  Yep, it was a good week.  I've never been called Satan before (sad face).  He said we were brainwashed and we couldn’t even tell that he was an "apostle of God" standing right in front of us.  This coming from a really smelly homeless guy who had safety pins holding together his pants, reading a book from the Jehovah’s Witnesses that said "Did Jesus really die on the cross?"   That was 10 minutes of my life I’ll never get back.

It didn't really shake me up; it was more shocking than anything else. But still some of the things he said were replaying in my mind throughout the day, so I said a quick prayer to have an experience that day to strengthen my testimony.  It was really neat how many ways that prayer was answered. I know this church is true.

Last weeks trials = blessings and miracles this week.

We had a sweet lesson with "P". When we got there he said, "I was going to text you guys.  I was wondering if we could talk about baptism today and how I would go about doing that." I love the Book of Mormon.  It really is the key.  He's in Alma already and he's so solid, he loves learning and can't wait for us to come over.  He said he really believes we are "angels."  It's funny how often we hear that.  Because clearly we aren’t, but they're recognizing that they can feel the spirit.   So “P” is getting baptized on the 10th! He has to give up smoking though. We're making a deal that he gives up smoking and we will give up chocolate. He has to give up smoking forever but we can't promise that with chocolate.  We’ll see how long we last.

All week long we had the feeling that we should stop to see “A”, one of the recent converts. We stopped by, but he wasn't home and he didn't answer his phone. On Friday morning we called him and he picked up. He is usually the happiest guy ever and he is so outgoing. When he picked up we knew something was wrong.  Hermana H couldn't understand what he was saying and she gave the phone to me.  He said he had been in the hospital the last week and about 2 minutes ago they just pulled the plug on his wife and she passed away!  He was in shock and couldn't talk.  He just told me the hospital room number, BUT IT WAS OUT OF OUR STINKIN AREA so we couldn't go! We called our ward and told them and they were great and dropped everything to go to the hospital and help. He and his wife are only 50 but she just has some intestinal problem I guess.  He came to church on Sunday and just looked so broken and just kept crying and crying. The second he saw us he pulled me in and hugged me. I don't care if it's against the rules- the man needed a hug.  He was crying so hard.  On top of his wife dying, he is losing his house this week. It's so hard to know other people are going through so much and have so much pain and not be able to do anything.  All sacrament meeting was about the atonement and it was everything he needed to hear.

The other Elder in our ward is training a new greenie. It's pretty entertaining. His Spanish is priceless and it's really hard not to laugh.  I can only make fun of him because we all have been in his situation.  He didn't understand anything at church when people were talking to him and so he gave up and fell asleep in all 3 meetings. Oh Spanish.

We had a mission president's fireside in Spanish and it was fun to see some of the other Spanish missionaries I’ve served with. Elder D used to be in our ward here in Tempe and now he's in my old branch in Gilbert.  Remember Bernice - of my first baptisms? I guess her daughter moved back in with her and is getting baptized this weekend! It is fun seeing other missionaries and catching up.

Well that is pretty much what happened this week.

Okay I love you
I miss you!

I LOVE YOU-

Love, Kaitlyn
