This week:
IT'S STARTING TO COOL
DOWN FINALLY! There is wind and it's not extremely hot! It's a miracle.
So after last week we
decided we need to bike to earn some blessings - even though we have miles. Are
you impressed? You should be. It works every time. Heavenly Father knows
how much we hate it and we have to humble ourselves to do it so the blessings
come pretty quickly.
We got “P” and “L” back
on date. They are both getting baptized on Oct.8th...hopefully. So we had
amazing lessons with both of them this week and they both have such strong
testimonies and BOTH promised they would be at church and then...NADA.
NOBODY came to church. That would make it our 4th week with 0
investigators at church. WHAT THE HECK. Church is probably the most
frustrating few hours of the week. We even called every single one of
them (like 15 people) on Saturday to make sure they would be there.
The lesson with “P” was
especially cool. We had had the worst day of biking and people yelling at
us and every lesson falling through, so we kind knew something good was about
to happen. When we got there he told us he prayed about the Book of Mormon,
Joseph Smith, and about the church being true and he received a very strong
answer to all of his questions. He said he knew it was true without a doubt and
that he knew he needed to be baptized. He said that every time he had a
temptation to smoke all week, he would pull out his lighter and a cigarette and
right as he was putting it to his lips we would text him a scripture. (We send
his a scripture every day randomly.) He said it freaked him out and
proved to him that we were "angels" and that is what made him lock
himself in his room and read the Book of Mormon and pray to ask if it was true.
He pulled out his lighter and last pack of cigarettes and signed the carton
that he would never smoke again and he gave us them. There is something really
fun about taking away cigarettes and alcohol from people. It was a really cool
lesson.
Sometimes we worry too
much as missionaries. We think if we fail or mess up it's all over, but that's
just silly. Something I'm learning over and over again is that the spirit makes
us for our weaknesses. My companion always thinks it's our fault if something
goes wrong and that God is going to be mad at us and we will be responsible for
all of these people-that if they don't accept the gospel now with us teaching
them it's our fault and they will never have another chance. I really don't
think that is how this works at all. I think this is clearly not our work, it's
His and he has complete control and honestly he doesn't even need us. His
work will go on whether or not we are here- we are just simply lucky to take a small
part in it and witness so many cool things.
We had a sweet lesson
with “H” and his family. They invited us to dinner and afterward we had planned
a completely different short lesson to share but somehow it changed into a
testimony meeting with the family. We asked what they had learned about Jesus
Christ from the Book of Mormon and one by one they went around the table and
shared their testimonies. “H” even bore his testimony. The most stubborn person
in the whole world admitted that he could feel the spirit and he knew the
church was true. It was really cool because the family is so dysfunctional and
they have so many problems between them all but that night with them all
bearing their testimonies they grew together.
Our other less active
boys gave away a Book of Mormon to their neighbor this week! They also texted
us asking where they could read about the word of wisdom because they wanted to
work on that. And they went to church.
I don't know why I love
less actives so much, but I do.
Well that's the more
exciting part of the week. We had lots of drama and discouragement but
that's not anything new.
Well that’s about it – have a great week – LOVE YOU!
