Oh, M got baptized! That was really cool. It was a really good baptism. We let him plan his program and he picked 6 songs to sing and 2 special musical numbers which ended up being really good. One of the musical numbers was this guy Jordan Bluth who is "famous" in Mormon culture. We have his CD, he’s like Josh Groban, so that was fun. But the best part was watching M. He really understood what he was doing and the covenant he was making. I was talking to him before the baptism started and we were talking about how literally his life changes this day forward and he has a fresh start and new life. He was shaking he was so nervous. It was really cool to see him in the white baptismal suit. Before the prayer was said, there was a moment when it was completely silent, as he got ready with his hands in place I saw him close his eyes and say a really quick prayer. He went under the water and left all of his past behind and came up clean of everything he's ever done. It’s as if it never happened.
I guess the water was pretty cold because he jumped up like a fish - it was hilarious. It was cool because even though there were probably only 15 of us there, the spirit was really strong. This whole experience hasn't been easy for M- to completely change. It was so clear that he was ready and that the spirit was testifying of that and you could feel Heavenly Fathers love so concentrated in that small room. He was literally glowing and kept thanking us for being a part of his life. That's the kind of stuff that makes it worth it.
That and on Sunday T (13 yr old that got baptized last week with his family) got the priesthood in Sacrament. My heart was so full. Then as he talked about all the places he wanted to go on a mission one day, so that was really cool.
It's so fun to see people that we work with as members now. We went to a ward activity and H and her kids were working and serving the food and they brought their grandparents - who aren't members but came to the baptism. The grandparents walked up to us and said "When are you guys going to come over to OUR house?" I love that it effects generations. That T and A will go on missions and raise families in the church, and that they are already inviting their friends to church.
We've had some really good Spanish lessons too. We had an awesome lesson with L and C last night and we read the Family Proclamation. They came to their own conclusion that they need to get married. We started to push for a date and they were thinking maybe next year...maybe November! They were all excited about it, and we're like “We were thinking more like next week.” So then they asked when we each were going home and said they would try to do it before then. But I might be getting transferred next week, so sadly I might not be able to see what happens with them:(
We are working with a really cool English family too that we have connected really well with. He grew up a member. He is about 45 years old and is married to a really cute 25 year old and they have a 3 yr old and a baby on the way. He called the Bishop and told him that he wanted to come back to church and that he wants to be worthy so he can baptize his wife, that he really needs a change and that they are missing something in their family and he knows it is the gospel. It's been really fun teaching them because he is so excited about coming back. He lights up when he talks about some of the memories he had. He will be like "Honey we can get sealed in the temple for forever!!" as he holds her hand. She has no idea what that means. She was like “Uh we are already married?” So our lessons have been pretty out of order but it's fun to teach them because we connect with them and they are excited about it. Last week they made us dinner and they opened up and told us everything, which was really cool that they trusted us. I love explaining the atonement. If everyone in the world really understood the atonement it would be such a different place. It ended up being a really cool lesson and they both mentioned that they felt something different in their home since we started coming and how things were going smoother and they felt like they were being helped and guided. They came to church on Sunday and the ward they are in is the best ward that we have- same one as H and her kids and M and I the month before- really missionary minded ward. Anyway they fit right in and their child old LOVED nursery. The other night they asked if he wanted to go back to church and he was like "YES I LOVE CHURCH!" Cute. It's so much better teaching families.
Well I'll write next week!
Okay I love you.
