HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!!
Our plans today?
Pres doesn't want us to leave the house or drive after dark so he's extended p-day so we have the entire day off...so we are going to some sports complex and playing games with our zone during the day and then having a little party with our zone tonight and carving pumpkins:)
This week was good...overall.
So we have 2 other hermanas in our ward and we did exchanges for a day. We had the craziest day together.
We got done with comp study and we got a call from “D” (the mom of the family that's getting baptized this weekend) TRYING TO DROP US!!! She said "we think we are going to pass on the church...you guys are really nice, the church is really nice. But we are going to pass. It's too much. We just aren't comfortable with tithing. So you don't need to come over anymore but thanks for all you've done..." My stomach dropped. My eyes went warm. Ughhh. Worst feeling in the whole world. They are the only good thing we have going in this area and we have worked our butts off with them. SO discouraging getting a drop call...I talked her into still letting us come over so we could talk face to face and find out what changed in the last 2 days. But we could tell she really didn't want us to come over at all and was really cold, which was weird because she loves us. I love how awkward we are as missionaries. People try to drop us but we have to re-invite ourselves over and won’t let them drop us. But it's only because we love them so much. If only they could feel a sliver for how much we love them.
The part that was really cool was that when we got off the phone with her we planned a lesson and the spirit put exactly what we needed to say in our minds and both Hermana F and I were thinking of the same scriptures and on the same page. Later that night we were so nervous to go into that lesson. When we walked in they were kind of cold and explained that they appreciated everything but didn't feel comfortable with tithing. (This is the 3rd time they've been taught tithing by different missionaries and they've never accepted it.) It was bugging me so bad “R” kept saying you guys are "nice” and we think the church is really "nice" and we like what we've heard it's all "nice"...After like the 5th time he said it we interrupted him and said the church isn't just "nice" it's true. It's a true church. You can't understand tithing and principles of faith if you don't have the faith in the church itself to begin with. We told them we needed to take steps back to the first time the missionaries ever came tom their house. Forget about tithing. Forget about anything else. We asked them how they knew that Jesus Christ was their Savior. They paused and had to think and said they just knew it. Hermana F and I bore our testimonies of how we knew Christ was our Savior and what they means to us. We both were crying. The spirit was so strong. It was incredible. We were not teaching the lesson. Then we explained that Jesus Christ established a church and we re-taught the restoration and we bore our testimonies every two seconds. We asked them how they felt when they read the Book of Mormon. “D”’s eyes went watery and she said that she likes to keep it her purse because the book itself makes her feel safe and protected. Before she leaves the house she catches herself putting it in her purse. She wants to keep a copy on her nightstand and all over the house. The spirit testified to her the Book was true and she told us that story. Then “R” said that when he got out of the hospital when he ran into missionaries he knew it was for a reason and that God had a plan for his family. So “B” their son that is 6 is really wild and misbehaves during all the lessons he needs attention. So the whole lesson “R” was holding down his hands and feet. He said that even though “B” was being crazy he couldn't deny how calm and peaceful he felt. You seriously could cut the spirit with a knife. At the end of the lesson they said they knew this was God's plan for them and they recommitted to pray and ask God. It was such a great lesson and went so much better than we could have hoped for. They're back on track now:)
This week we had the mission tour. Where one of the general authorities comes and trains us. We had Elder Wilson and his wife from the seventy. It was really good. The sisters had a separate meeting with Sister Wilson for an hour before the training started. She's AMAZING. I want to be like her. She is a total scriptorian she knew everything. She talked about how we all make mistakes and told all these personal stories from her life of mistakes she's made. Then explained how those mistakes shape us and that's part of His plan. We can’t fight the will of God. It was so good. I learned so much from her throughout the day as she made comments. I love woman like that in the church that just make me want to be better. Sister Howes is like that too. She's amazing.
Our area had been so hard lately it's been harder not to get discouraged. We are having such a hard time finding people to teach who are ready. I started to pray about why Heavenly Father sent us to this area at this time. Then as I was thinking about it we drove past a field of sheep. I just thought, "Don't worry about it. Just feed my sheep"... So that's my plan. And I have been reading the Old Testament and I feel like I keep finding scriptures that talk about "Be of good cheer" and I think that's a commandment. So that is also my plan.
Okay well I LOVE YOU and miss you.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
